Only a surfer knows the feeling…
Hi, I’m Marc, a passionate surfer from Cape Town, South Africa
I only learnt to surf when I was 30. I was on holiday in Morocco with friends and we decided to spend a few days on the coast in a seaside town called Taghazout. Whilst there I took my first ever surf lesson and the rest is history.
From the moment I caught my first real wave, I knew that surfing was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Since then I have had the privilege of surfing in many amazing places like Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Portugal, Spain, and of course my home country of South Africa, including world renowned point break, Jeffreys Bay.
I realised early on that it was difficult to find simple information on surf equipment for beginners. There was a plethora of technical information on performance surfboards for experienced surfers, but a dearth of information on surfboards for beginners.
I set out to change this by creating Beginner Surf Gear, with the aim of helping other beginner surfers get access to the relevant information they need when starting out in the sport.
I hope you find the site useful and that information provided will help you take the next step in your surfing journey. Just remember the best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun 🤙
